Student Registration & Tuition:  

  • A one-time registration fee of $100 will be collected at the time of registration. 
  • Monthly hula dues are as follows:
    • All haumāna ages 3 - 54 - $55/month
    • Kūpuna ages 55 and older - $45/month
  • A Hālau pā'ū is required for all wahine and kaikamahine classes.  $75 will be collected at the time of the registration for the hālau pāʻū.  
  • We do offer Family Plans, please inquire about these tuition fees and requirements. 
  • Students may be asked to purchase additional items such as costumes, implements and other hālau associated items in order for them to function proficiently as a dancer.
  • All fees are non-refundable.

Class Information:

Papa Lehua Popohe

Elite Women, Ages 13 and up

Thursday 6:30p-8:30p

Class Description:

This is an invitation only class for women ages 13 and up (or by Kumu's discretion). Students in this class will focus on advanced technique of hula (kahiko and 'auana) and oli in Hālau Hi'iakaināmakalehua's style. We include language, culture, protocol and basic interpretation. This is a skill commitment, participatory, and attendance-based class that requires the highest level of commitment to hālau and hula. This is NOT a "Hula Lite", beginner, or intermediate class. Strenuous physical, mental, and spiritual activity is exercised in this class; therefore, commitment and attendance are strongly observed. Students are required to bring a 3-ring binder and writing materials to every class for gathering the information that is taught. It is recommended that you bring water and a towel. Students in this class may often be asked to perform.

Papa Lehua Mamo

Men, Ages 13-45

Class Description:

This class is for men ages 13 and up.  This class is geared for the intermediate and advanced male student.  Students in this class will focus on the basics of hula (kahiko and 'auana) and oli, as well as advanced choreography. We include language, culture, protocol and basic interpretation. This is a skill, commitment, participatory, and attendance-based class that requires the highest level of commitment to hālau and hula. This is NOT a "Hula Lite", beginner, or intermediate class. Strenuous physical, mental, and spiritual activity is exercised in this class; therefore, commitment and attendance are strongly observed. Students are required to bring a 3-ring binder and writing materials to every class for gathering the information that is taught. It is recommended that you bring water and a towel. Intermediate Level Women, Ages 18 and up

Entry Level Hula: Basics and Lite Choreography Women, Ages 18 - 50

Class Description:

This class is geared towards intermediate level women ages 18 - 45. This is an invitation only class. You must previously be active in the Papa 'Ōpu'u Lehua class to be invited into this class. Students in this class will focus on mastering the basics of hula in true Hi'iakaināmakalehua style. This class will help prepare the students to move forward in skill and understanding of the Hawaiian culture through hula and is a prerequisite for the Papa Lehua Popohe (advanced) class. This is NOT a "Hula Lite", beginner class, or "gracious ladies"/"Makuahine class." Strenuous physical, mental, and spiritual activity is exercised in this class, and attendance is of utmost importance. Students are required to bring a 3-ring binder and writing materials to every class for gathering the information that is taught. It is recommended that you bring water and a towel.

Class Description:

This is a Basics and Lite Choreography class specifically for women ages 18 - 50 who are still working on the foundational requirements and techniques of hālau. This class is also for the beginner level students who are still working on the basics of hula as well as choreography. This class allows the student to focus on the fundamentals of hula according to Hiʻiakaināmakalehua. Once Kumu decides the student is proficiently performing our basics and fundamentals, the student will be transferred into a more advanced class.  Students are required to bring a 3-ring binder and writing materials to every class for gathering the information that is taught. It is recommended that you bring water and a towel. 

Papa Lehua Puakea

Makuahine and Kupuna Wahine, Ages 45 and up

Monday 5:30p-6:45p

Class Description:

This class is for women ages 45 and up beginning and intermediate level mature women, women who desire less strenuous physical activity (Hula-Lite) and those who can use the experiences of life and put them into their hula. Students in this class will focus on the basics of hula (kahiko and 'auana) and oli. We include language, culture, protocol and basic interpretation. Students are required to bring a 3-ring binder and writing materials to every class for gathering the information that is taught. It is recommended that you bring water and a towel. Students in this class may occasionally be asked to perform.

Papa Kupu Lehua 1 and 2

Beginner Girls Ages 3-10

Saturday 9:00a-10:00a or 10:00a-11:00a

Class Description:

This class is to introduce girls ages 3 -10 to hula so that they may begin to love it. This class will help prepare the students to move forward in skill and will help promote and perpetuate a little girls desire for hula through dance, excursions, activities, and performances. Students are required to bring a 3-ring binder and writing materials to every class for gathering the information that is taught. It is recommended that you bring water and a towel. Students in this class may occasionally be asked to perform.

Papa Liko Lehua

Intermediate and Advance Level Girls Ages 6-12

Saturday 11:00a-12:30p

Class Description:

This is an invitation only class for girls ages 6 -12.  Students in this class will focus on the basics of hula and advanced choreography and oli. This class promotes progression by teaching commitment, loyalty, discipline, responsibility and passion for hula to the students. This class will help prepare the students to move forward in skill and understanding of the Hawaiian culture through hula. For their needed progression. students will be asked to do more strenuous physical (dance) and intellectual (study) activity in this class. Students are required to bring a 3-ring binder and writing materials to every class for gathering the information that is taught. It is recommended that you bring water and a towel. Students in this class may occasionally be asked to perform. 

Papa Muʻo Lehua

Boys Ages 5-12

Tuesday 5:00p-6:30p

Class Description:

Students in this class will focus on the basics of hula and beginner and advanced choreography and oli. This class is geared to introduce keiki kane to hula in fun, yet effective ways to promote progress. This class promotes progression by teaching commitment, loyalty, discipline, responsibility and passion for hula to the students. This class will help prepare the students to move forward in skill and understanding of the Hawaiian culture through hula. For their needed progression. students will be asked to do more strenuous physical (dance) and intellectual (study) activity in this class. Students are required to bring a 3-ring binder and writing materials to every class for gathering the information that is taught. It is recommended that you bring water and a towel. Students in this class may occasionally be asked to perform.

***Special Note: PARENTS AND/OR LEGAL GUARDIANS MUST BE ACTIVE IN THEIR CHILDREN'S HULA LIFE IN ORDER FOR THEIR CHILD TO PROGRESS! Your child needs you to support them and to participate.
